Car Switch Project

This is a project I did for the elevator museum. We have a lot of these old elevator car switches which are used in manual elevators. I had a lot of trouble setting them up in the museum because they don't sit flat on the table and can't be used without falling over. In this project, I solve that problem by designing custom stands for each of the parts. I had two main criteria for the stand design: Looks and portability.

I came up with a design that uses three pieces of wood: a base and two side pieces. Each stand would use the same size of wood for consistency. In the end, I created five of these stands, each with a slightly different size to fit in the piece.

In addition to making the stands, I fixed up each item. Most of them only needed some basic cosmetic fixes. One of them had a partially working locking mechanism which I fixed with a spring and a custom 3D printed button. One other one was missing a lot of the internal mechanism. Again, I used some springs and custom 3D printed parts to fix it.

In the end, all five of these pieces are in good working order and are mounted to their new stands. These pieces will be set up in the elevator museum for all to enjoy!
