Otis Black Button

Otis elevator used a variety of black buttons through their time. Specifically, this page focuses on the fixtures used from the 20s to the 80s.

The smaller version of the black button. These were more commonly found on installs around the 50s
The larger version of the black button. These buttons were commonly found on installs around the 60s
The newest black button. These are similar to the buttons found in the 60s, however they have a plastic cap that covers the text.

Wiring a 1950s Otis Call Button

In this video, I wire up this Otis black button call button that was from the 1950s. It features the older style of contacts and the larger black buttons. I set up the fixture to where the buttons light up the corresponding arrow.

This video shows a detailed look inside of the old fixtures used by Otis on their automatic elevators from the 20s. There are no lights on this panel, so no wiring is needed.

Restoring and Wiring an Otis Black Button Car Panel

This video shows a look inside this 1959 Otis black button car panel that came from an old service elevator. As well as a look at the panel, I also do a quick restoration and wire up the arrow lights. There are "U" and "D" buttons on the panel, and I figured those were perfect buttons to make the direction lamps light up!
